Without doubt our “niche” as a stucco contractor and drywall contractor is the art of steel trowel stucco application, or smooth stucco as it is more commonly known. Smooth stucco is a temperamental beast. The stucco color coat itself is only 1/8” in thickness and is highly responsive to even the slightest deviation in the underlying base coat. Problem areas where stucco cracks are most likely to appear are that of window and door frames; normally leading away from each corner, in a diagonal fashion. Incorrectly sheathed framework can also play havoc with stucco finishes as tightly abutted plywood “pops” in its expansion. To counteract this common issue, LA Stucco Company employs a Crack Isolation System designed by Omega Stucco Products. This system consists of a simple layer of glass fiber mesh embedded in acrylic modified basecoat. Our experience so far, with over two hundred applications to date, is one of almost complete success.
